Front cover images

This is the image I chose to use for the front cover of my magazine; I believe that it has a lovely natural tone to it which is the look I wanted to apply to my magazine to create an image of the house style being very natural and back to basics.
I think the lighting in this picture is very nice; I didn’t use any technical equipment whilst taking this photo apart from the camera itself, the only light in this image is natural. I decided to do this because, for me, artificial light doesn’t create a sense of verisimilitude. I really wanted to build upon the back to basics rule and so I placed my model right next to a big window which would gather all of the light within the room and make the most of what I had.
I chose to take the photo within the bedroom of the model because it allowed me to be within an environment of which she felt comfortable and asked her to play her guitar, again creating this comfortable environment for her to be in, this meant I was creating a picture that people would be able to relate to. I like the positioning of the model because she doesn’t address the audience directly; she turns her head and has a small smile across her face as if to say “welcome”, a kind and warm gesture.

I chose to use this image, once more, because of the natural tone of the image. There was no lighting used but the sun and for this reason it creates that basic look that I want to promote in my magazine. With the lighting on one side of the model's face, highlighting their hair and costume, it makes the image more interesting to the audience.
I tried to use the rule of thirds in the image too which is a basic convention to get a balance on the image, with the model looking very small in the left-hand third of the image it draws the audience's eyes across from left to right and they take in the whole of the picture. I like the use of the outdoor setting on this picture because, although the picture is not a big feature on my actual front cover, it does allow the audience to see the genre of the magazine that I have created.
I used this image on the front cover also, because of a similar reason to those previously mentioned; it promotes the genre of the magazine and looks very natural.  The lighting in this picture, however, is different, it has a colder look which makes it look more serious, I can once more say that I did not use any lighting equipment, it was all natural light. I aimed to get the light mainly on one side of the model's face because it makes for a more interesting picture, however, the light was fading quickly and it did not work as well as i would have hoped although it succeeded a little bit.
Once more this was a smaller feature on the front cover used to showcase my magazine genre and attract the audience in the form of a poster.

Contents Page Images
I chose this as my feature picture in my contents page because it has a lovely feel to it, the mise-en-scene of the picture says everything that I wanted it to. The trees in the background for the location are perfect, it created the natural, basic look that I wanted whilst still being structured and, in terms of other items featured, complex. I would go on to say that the image is different to the standard pictures that you would see in a magazine, it has a feel of being a family portrait and a very traditional image which is what I was aiming for. It also gave me a chance to take a stereotypical photo with tweed, wellies and dogs, this creates a connection with the audience, this is why I chose it to be used in such a way.

I used this image on my contents page because it looks like a relaxed yet professional image, the lighting is good and has an interesting use of shadows with it being a darkish image. The location was an aspect which I used to make the magazine more appealing to the reader, this is because it is a room which teenagers and such like aspire to have.

I decided to use this image because it is an accurate representation of a festival that youths go to, it is a way of promoting the festival to the audience. I like the style of this photo because it was taken with a disposable camera so it has a different, more attractive look. The way in which the people are shown in the image is also attractive to the audience and it is very interesting to look at despite the fact that the rule of thirds is not used.
I used this image on my contents page because I like the look of it, it differs from the association with music and so it maintains the readers' interest in the magazine. I like the lighting of the image because it gives depth to the image and creates layers of things to look at. The picture uses the rule of thirds to draw the readers' eyes across the Page from left to right allowing the full image to be looked at nicely.

I chose to use this image on my double page spread because it has a good look to it, especially the final version where it has been cropped. The image uses the rule of thirds with the model standing in the left side of the image, the draws the sudiences' eyes across from the left to the right of the picture making it more aesthetically pleasing and interesting to look at. I like the lighting of this image because the use of the guitar brightens up the models position by using a bright colour.
I chose to use this picture on my magazine because I think it is very interesting to look at, it creates an image that the audience can enjoy and explore. One way in which it does this is by looking at the colours used, you have a vibrant orange colour in the centre of the image, this is surrounded by the beige colour and in turn this is surrounded by the green of the grass.  It has layers of colour and it is undeniably attractive.
In terms of the positioning of the guitar in the image, the fret board is located in the right hand third of the picture, by using the rule of thirds and making the fret board run away from the picture, you can grasp a sense of depth and once more steal the readers' attention.
